A COVID-19 RESPONSE PROJECT

RAPTORS- by Judy Upton

Post Brexit, with gridlock regularly occurring on the motorways of Kent from the M25 to Dover, a formerly disused Kent airport is preparing to step into the breach, providing both freight and passenger flights to Europe. In a play of inter-chiming monologues and dramatic, and eventually confrontational break out scenes, projection and recorded soundscapes, we meet rookie pilot Meena, making her first commercial passenger flight, while her family feud over Brexit, recovering gambling addict turned falconer Emerald, whose eagle is to keep the runway drone-free, Karla, an earnest young eco-warrior and drone expert, part of a protest movement planning to fly drones to disrupt the first flight out, and Sophie, a weather scientist and blogger flying to a climate change conference in the Netherlands on that first flight, whilst battling panic attacks and a fear of flying. The play is intended to be a drama with a thriller edge.
