A COVID-19 RESPONSE PROJECT

AMORALPLAY - by Chris Salt

amoralplay is about hope - who peddles it, who falls for it and who recognises it for what it is.

Nerys is low on cash and self-esteem, juggling grief and guilt (and 15 yr-old Mikey) in God-forsaken Gotherswick.

Albie’s auditioning the locals to ‘put on a show’ - no one turns up but Mikey, and he’s only there for the crisps. An unlikely friendship develops as Mikey introduces Albie to his family, his life, his world.

Under the uncertain eye of Father Tommy, Nerys begins to pull her life together, Albie unbuttons, and Mikey astonishes everybody but himself.

Chris Salt

"Until 2014 I balanced a television documentary career with non-broadcast community arts work but have since been prioritising my writing. Following an MA in playwrighting in 2015 I’ve had work selected for Bolton Octagon’s Top Five Festival, come runner-up in both the Octagon and Papatango national new-writing awards, had professional commissions, and won Arts Council grants to further my work. In 2017 I was selected as a founder member of the Royal Court (Northern) Writers Group developing scripts for rehearsed readings at both the Royal Court and Northern Stage. This Spring 2020 my play, ‘fell’, toured Cumbria and Lancashire." - Chris Salt
